Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:18

The statistics are staggering and sobering. However, the compelling and proven solution to the problem of fatherlessness is MENTORING. One-on-one mentoring has proven to be the most effective way to reach a fatherless child.

Mentoring Youth Matters

1-IMG_8612

Psychology Today has a great article that addresses why “Mentoring Youth Matters.” Among the salient points made in the article is a list of six qualities of a good mentor:

1. Supportive

2. An active listener

3. Push…just enough

4. Have an authentic interest in youth as individuals

5. Foster self decision-making

6. Lend Perspective

As someone who has spent a lot of time in the mentoring field, I wholeheartedly agree with this list of essential qualities.  Take a few moments to read the article in its entirety.
