Pathways Danbury

Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop Danbury youth at-risk into Christ-centered young men who “trust in the Lord and do good,” and who go for excellence in all that they do.

Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:18

The statistics are staggering and sobering. However, the compelling and proven solution to the problem of fatherlessness is MENTORING. One-on-one mentoring has proven to be the most effective way to reach a fatherless child.

President Obama’s Fatherhood Pledge

Dungy's Diary

Tony Dungy is the National Spokesman for All Pro Dad.

During the recent presidential campaign, Tony Dungy, former Indianapolis Colts head coach, penned an open letter pleading with both candidates to address the issue of fatherlessness within our society.

(Mr. Dungy’s letter can be seen here: http://www.allprodad.com/dungy/vote-for-fatherhood/.)

In that letter, a number of alarming statistics are provided:

  • For the first time in our history, the majority of women under the age of 30 who are having children are doing so outside of marriage.
  • Research shows that 24 million children do not live with their biological father.
  • Approximately 7 out of 10 African-American children are born to unwed mothers.
  • 62% of juvenile offenders grew up without a dad

The President’s Fatherhood Pledge

President Barack Obama has taken seriously this call to action by encouraging fathers to take the “Fatherhood Pledge.” As stated on the pledge’s website, “President Obama grew up without his dad, and has said that being a father is the most important job he has. That’s why the President is joining dads from across the nation in a fatherhood pledge – a pledge that we’ll do everything we can to be there for our children and for young people whose fathers are not around. When you take the President’s Fatherhood Pledge, you’ll receive updates, tips and resources from fatherhood organizations, prominent dads and other supporters of responsible fatherhood around the nation.”
